Kavi® Showcase Help

Chapter 55. Manage Profile Categories

Overview

Super Admins use the Manage Profile Categories tool to view and manage the categories that are used to classify profiles. These categories determine how profiles are presented or retrieved when visitors search and browse the organization's showcase. Categories are also used when searching for profiles in profile management tools.

Kavi Showcase installs three categories by default: Organizations, Companies and Individuals. Since every organization has its own classification system, these are usually deleted or edited when the showcase is set up.

Flat or hierarchical categories

  • Categories can have a flat structure so that all categories are at the same level, or may be nested so that a category may have subcategories. Most organizations use a flat category structure.

  • If your organization uses hierarchical categories, each category may have one or many subcategories. When subcategories are displayed to application users and showcase visitors, the tree structure is displayed to so the viewer can see where the category is within the hierarchy.

This is configured by setting the 'profile_flat_categories' option in Configure Kavi Showcase.

Use the Manage Profile Categories tool to:

  • View the categories used to classify and sort profiles for display in your organization's showcase.

  • If your organization uses nested categories you may rearrange category structure as needed.

  • Access tools used to add, edit or delete categories.

How to Manage Profile Categories

The categories are presented for you to review. You may also click links to tools used to add, edit or delete profile categories.

If there is no Add Subcategory link displayed, your organization uses a flat category structure, and every category is at the same level.

If your organization does use hierarchical categories, the Add Subcategory link is displayed. Click this link if you want to add a subcategory, or click the Add Top-level Category button to add a new top-level category. To see all categories, click the Expand All link. To see all subcategories under a top-level category, click the plus sign (+) in front of the top-level category. To hide subcategories, click the minus (-) sign.

If you want to edit a category, click the Edit link for that category. If the Delete link is displayed, the category is not in use and may be deleted. If you want to delete a category and the Delete link is not displayed, see the page help for Delete Profile Category for instructions.
